The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), in full Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation), is a European Union regulation that aims to significantly increase the protection of citizens’ personal data. It was promulgated in the Official Journal of the European Union on 27 April 2016.1 The Regulation, as approved,[2] is directly effective for each EU Member State. In Slovak law, the Regulation is also reflected in Act No. 18/2018 Coll. on the Protection of Personal Data and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts of 29 November 2017[3] Act No. 18/2018 Coll. is effective in Slovakia, as is the GDPR, as of 25 May 2018. The Act was updated directly and indirectly in 2019 (as amended by No. 35/2019 Coll. (indirectly), 221/2019 Coll.)
